Greetings from Arequipa, Peru! We have lots of exciting news! Changes are ahead for our family and church over the next few months. We invite you to read the news. Thank you all so much for your faithful prayer and financial support that allows us to live and serve here in Peru and the proclaim the gospel in Ciudad de Dios.
Family
Jason & Sarah:
On the 30th of April, we will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary! We are so thankful for God’s grace and goodness to us.
Nathan:
Nathan just recently turned 18! He will finish up high school in a few short weeks. We will be traveling to Atlanta during the last week of May for his high school graduation before heading to Oregon. We are thankful for his compassionate heart and friendly spirit. Please pray for Nathan as he looks ahead to the next steps and as he transitions back to life in the US.
Evelyn:
Evelyn is finishing up her Sophomore and Junior year (quite ambitious!). In addition to playing piano, she has also learned the guitar and is using her musical talents in the church. This summer, she plans to go to Spain on a 5-week missions trip. We are thankful for her missionary heart and desire to be used by God.
Andrew:
Andrew is finishing up 5th grade. He is thankful for his many Peruvian friends. Over the last six months, God has allowed our church to begin a ministry to preteens and adolescents. Andrew has greatly enjoyed being in this group and is being challenged to grow spiritually. We are thankful for his laid back, fun-loving spirit. It is wonderful to watch him grow up!
Ministry
IBC Ciudad de Dios (our local church):
Last month, our church celebrated its 3rd anniversary! We are thankful for all that God is doing. God has put our church in this community to proclaim the gospel of Jesus and to make disciples. We are seeing fruit and this encourages our hearts! God is faithful. Due to our upcoming home assignment, a lot of our work this year has been preparing the church leadership to carry on the work during our absence. God has provided a pastoral leader who has been serving alongside of Jason for three years now. Hugo will step in as the interim pastor of the church. God has also provided other leaders for our different ministries (women’s, youth, preteen, kids, worship). It has been a blessing to see God prepare and use these men and women in the ministry and in the service of the local church. It has been an honor for Jason to disciple them and to see how God is growing them to serve the church. Please pray for each one of the leaders. We are also thankful for the families who continue to attend and serve. We invite you to join with us in prayer for a few specific people who have heard the gospel and who are making decisions of faith.
Home assignment:
After traveling to Atlanta for Nathan’s graduation at the end of May, we will be arriving in Salem for a time of home assignment. We have not been back since the church started over 3 years ago and are looking forward to time of connection with our family, friends, supporters and supporting churches. The plan, right now, is to be in the Salem area from June through at least September (but probably into October). We would love to connect with each one of you and your families. This will be a time of rest for us, but also a time dedicated to helping Nathan settle into life in the US, possible college visits for Evelyn, catching up with family and friends and visiting our churches and supporters. Please pray for us as these months will be full and will go by quickly. We want to use this time well and want to accomplish the important priorities that it demands.
Happy 3rd Anniversary IBC Ciudad de Dios!
