OREM, Utah — News of the horrific assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025 has exploded across the globe. Shot by a sniper’s bullet during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University, Kirk, 31, succumbed to his wounds shortly thereafter. He left behind a wife and two children. Charlie was bold in his life – never shying away from biblical truth, even when he faced a hostile audience. His life, however abruptly ended, remains a powerful encouragement for Christians to remain faithful and to bravely stand against a wicked and perverse generation, even in the darkest of times.
Kirk’s life and death deliver certain reminders to believers striving for faithfulness. First, Charlie was unashamed to stand for biblical truth, and he did not fail to confront ideas in conflict with that truth. The Scriptures invite all Christian to similar boldness. 1 Corinthians 15:58 says, “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and immovable. Always excel in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (BSB).
Next, Kirk’s willingness to share his faith in politically polarized environments showed true courage. As he knew, Christian courage is not grounded in self-reliance, but dependence upon the Holy Spirit. Remember the Lord’s charge to Joshua, “Have I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9, BSB). Biblical courage will confront danger with truth, with the confidence that the Lord never forsakes those who are His. All Christians are called to such bravery and Charlie Kirk was well aware of that.
After his death, an unbelieving world was no doubt stunned when his widow, Erika Kirk, publicly forgave Tyler Robinson, her husband’s alleged killer. However, this should have come as no shock to believers. Christ Himself serves as our model. Don’t forget that while He hung dying on the cross, He pleaded, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34, BSB). Romans 12:21 declares, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (BSB). Christians are not called to seek our own vengeance, but to leave that to the Lord (See Romans 12:19). As Christians we are called to forgive.
And ultimately, Charlie’s Kirk’s life is a reminder to keep the cross central in all things. In a divided world, the church’s allegiance is to Christ, not to a political party. In Galatians 2:20, Paul writes, “I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me” (BSB). Christians must never lose sight that their ultimate mission is to build the Kingdom of God, not the kingdom of men.
The death of Charlie Kirk, a dear brother in Christ, was a sobering reminder that culture wars carry real risk. Yet for Christians, even in the darkest and most dangerous of times, our call remains the same: to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13–16), to bear witness for Christ with courage, humility, and love. Let the life of Charlie Kirk serve as another invitation from the Lord for each believer to examine whether we embody faithfulness when pressures mount, whether we stand firm for truth, whether we practice forgiveness, and whether Christ remains our center above all else. God is sovereign and evil will not have the final word. May the many who mourn Charlie Kirk also hear a renewed call to live with faithfulness and courage in an age when both are in short supply.
